Any comments or suggestions to how this years theme- The American Dream will proceed. What is the dream? Capitalism? We do live in a republic comprised of this governing tool. How will the burners interpret this in thier imagery and expressions? Any humerous insights?

  • By mimicking the plight of millions of refugees all over the world by living in tent housing in an untenable landscape, BM attendees will obliquely refer to these people's dreams of hope & prosperity as embodied by America.

Actually, this year's theme does not seem to have much broad appeal from what I can tell. People are going to be like "whatever" and will just pull out the same silly, fuzzy clothes they brought last year and start partying. The usual displays of narcissism combined with conspicuous consumption, which ironically seems to be the real American dream these days for a large portion of the population.
    • Maybe they should wear red, white, and blue fuzzy legwarmers while burning gross amounts of fossil fuels. They can eat lots of bacon and stimulate the economy by buying survival gear.
      • yes, definitely by supporting the factory farm industry by purchasing cases of bacon, they are both living and sustaining the American Dream. Not to mention how much gas they will burn getting there. The American Dream is apparently to surround yourself with comforts that came from sending lots of money to the government and also outside of our country. Good for the other countries, ultimately devastating for ours.

If they can recognize the truth that we all have everything we need >right here<, then they are truly reinventing the American Dream. I'd like to see a camp put together entirely by self-sustaining elements--including home-grown bacon, water from their own land, homemade veggie fuel and dehydrated home-grown food.
  • The American Dream...of facilitating the parting of fools and their money? :D
    • Have you seen "The Yes Men?" I love the comparison they make to sweatshops and slavery.....how sweatshops are kinder because the people are allowed to be poor in their own countries, while the Americans have decadence. This way we don't have to have the inconvenience of witnessing it.
